@ mad86

Maybe you or others want to add more apps and they have problems about free space. So I did expand the system.img and added root successfully. I have done this without Romans Tool:

a) Unpack your system.img with wendals-tools

b) Use your Linux (for me VirtualBox_Portable_4.x.x_32-64_Multilingual_Online.exe with "Ubuntu 10.04.vdi.bz2") 32bit

1. Create a folder "system" and copy system.img into this folder
2. apt-get install e2fsprogs
3. sudo resize2fs -p '/home/system.img' 600M (that's 600 MB for example)
4. If you get an error message: Do what is asked for, for example:
sudo e2fsck -f '/home/system.img'

sudo resize2fs -p '/home/system.img' 600M
5. Now you should get the message that the system.img has now 614400 blocks.
6. chmod 06755 '/home/ubuntu/Desktop/system'
7. sudo mount -o loop '/home/system.img' '/home/ubuntu/Desktop/system'
8. sudo nautilus: and delete apks with "shift" + "del" from your apps-folder if you like.
9. sudo chown root 'home/ubuntu/Desktop/Firmware Original/xbmcapp...apk' (to make an apk-file your own)
10. Copy this apk into app-directory (drag and drop)
11. sudo chmod 6755 'home/ubuntu/Desktop/Firmware Original/xbmcapp...apk' (to set permissions for this apk)
12. Do the same with su (for bin), su (for xbin), superuser.apk (app)
13. If you know what you want you can change the build.prop in nautilus
14. If you want to change bootanimation then do the steps from 9 - 11
15. If everything is done, then unmount the system: sudo umount '/home/ubuntu/Desktop/system'
16. All of your changes are stored in the system.img
17. Do not wonder about the paths in the description. I did the paths with drag and drop.

c) copy this new system.img ('/home/system.img') back to Windows into your Wendals-Tools-Folder

d) I don't know if necessary, but I changed the parameter-file for the bigger system.img:
0x00100000@0x00482000(system) => 0x00100000@0x00682000(system)

@0x00582000(user) => @0x00782000(user)
e) Pack your files to an complete firmware.img with wendals-tools.

f) Flash the "wendal_new.img" to your tablet.

That worked for me. But it is not very comfortable. So I wish that Roman could include this into his menu-tool.

Last I have a question: When I own an apk with chown the file gets an "locked" icon. If I reboot Linux the file has still the lock icon. When I want to use this file later for another system.img, do I have to make chown again or does it keep my own ? Not making chown twice ? But making chmod twice ?

hello to all!
i'm new at this forum and sadly noob with linux. i'm trying to do some tweaks to android firmware, but, i'm stuck on first step?!
i have "wendaled" update.img, i switched to ubuntu, downloaded mod tool, extracted, copyed my update.img to unpack folder, double click to menu.sh, and all what i get is that script opened in gedit text editor?!?!

what i'm missing?

on other hand, before i founded this tool, i followed some other procedure to customize image file, but _after_ customization in linux, i do not know how to revert it back to update.img and do a wendal tool to repack it?

please, if somebody knows, help me!

thanks in advance!

Installed libdssl and dialog ?
You don't have to use wendal when you work with romans tool.

@ mad86

No. I used SU from another rooted RK3188 ROM. I don't know if these files are working for RK3066 also.

As described: I took su for /bin, another su for /xbin and third SU.apk for /apps. SU is fully working this way.

yep, libdssl and dialog installed - as there was written in text file and in forum. no luck.
i have two different images and i needed dearchive one with wendall.

but, finally i managed to make changes on image, and installed it into box. but, all effort was not-worthy because i didin't success what i meant. so, now i can only try to open this romans tool, and get it working, just for testing purposes.

any how, thanks for answer!

VIKIDROID, if i understand you try to use roman's tool with pre extracted img by wendal's tool and it's the problem.

With roman's tool you have to work with stock original firmware img ;)

@ Pogodancer :

I try to make an init.d adding script. If i understand it just need to make an init.d folder in /etc ?!

So my script is :

#!/bin/bash
#add needed folders
mkdir system_mount/etc/init.d
#set permission
sudo chown root:root system_mount/etc/init.d
sudo chmod 755 system_mount/etc/init.d

Do you try anything like this ?

sudo cp -fap ref/root/bin/su system_mount/bin/su
sudo cp -fap ref/root/xbin/su system_mount/xbin/su
sudo cp -fap ref/root/bin/busybox system_mount/bin/busybox

#set permissions
sudo chown root:root system_mount/app/Superuser.apk
sudo chmod 6755 system_mount/app/Superuser.apk

1. I didn't try init.d. What it is good for ?
2. Your root script seems to be the steps I did for root the firmware. How to use your script ? Do I have to have Roman's tool executed and then opening a new terminal to copy this inside ?
